Casciana Terme Lari, is located in the province of Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany, known above all for the thermal plant which uses calcium-sulphurous waters at a constant 35.7°C.
It is said that the thermal water was discovered by Countess Matilde of Canossa. She had a rather old and shabby blackbird, with grayish feathers for her age. One day the countess noticed that the blackbird was moving better and better and its feathers had returned to an intense black color and its beak was bright yellow.
She followed the blackbird on its morning “exits”. She discovered that every morning the blackbird flew to put its paws in a strange “steaming water”.
The countess also wanted to try immersing herself in the miraculous waters. And in a very short time she was benefiting from it. She therefore decided to build some tubs, it was only the beginning of the construction of the spa facilities that we can admire today.
Until 1927 the spa was owned by the Municipality of Lari.
